Ukraine-U.S. security agreement to include more provisions than UK deal, Zelenskyy's aide states
The security agreement between Ukraine and the United States will be unique and will have more provisions, says the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
"I think that in the (security - Ed.) agreement with the United States, there will be even more provisions. I believe it will be even more unique. We are working on it," stated the head of the Office of the President.
When asked why the first such agreement was with the United Kingdom and not the United States, he explained that it was an internal arrangement.
"With Americans, we are preparing; we have already started the first consultations. America, as before, remains our main partner, ally," reassured Yermak.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
At the beginning of July last year, G7 countries approved a declaration promising security guarantees to Ukraine. Over 30 countries have already joined.
It was also reported that several countries began negotiations with Ukraine on security guarantees on a bilateral basis. Negotiations with Germany, for example, started on November 17, 2023.
Additionally, on December 20, the second round of talks on security guarantees between Ukraine and the United Kingdom took place.
Security agreement between the United Kingdom and Ukraine
On January 12, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, during his visit to Kyiv, signed an agreement on security guarantees with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Thus, the United Kingdom became the first country to sign such an agreement with Ukraine.
The agreement includes guarantees of financial, military, and other types of support.
