Over the past few months, a large group of countries, including Australia and Japan, has been working on security guarantees for Ukraine, says NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in an interview with Fox News.

"Over the last couple of months, under the leadership of Keir Starmer, the British Prime Minister, and Emmanuel Macron, the French President, a group of now 30 countries, including Japan and Australia, are working on this concept of security guarantees," the Secretary General said.

The guarantees will take effect after a long-term ceasefire or a full-fledged peace agreement. The participation of the United States will be discussed in the coming days.

Rutte added that during the meeting of US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and EU leaders at the White House, the deployment of European troops in Ukraine was not agreed upon, nor was the role of the United States in this process specified.

System of security guarantees for Ukraine

US President Donald Trump, following the White House summit on August 18, stated that European countries, in coordination with the United States, would develop security guarantees for Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the formalization of the guarantees within the next ten days.

The head of state also noted that 30 countries that are part of the Coalition of the Willing are participating in his draft of security guarantees.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that after peace is achieved, Ukraine will be able to conclude defense agreements not only with EU countries or the United States.
