Ukraine’s Defense Minister Denis Shmyhal held a meeting in Kyiv with US Special Envoy General Keith Kellogg. Among the topics discussed was the potential delivery of new Patriot systems to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to Shmyhal.

"I expressed gratitude for the strong support the United States provides to Ukraine. I briefed General Kellogg on the results of this week’s productive UDCG meeting, where we received strong signals of support," he noted.

During the meeting, they discussed the possibility of the Ukrainian Defense Forces receiving new Patriot systems and corresponding ammunition.

"The delegation was provided with data on the battlefield situation, as well as details of Russia’s provocation against Poland. Such actions are a test of NATO’s response, so the allies’ answer must be coordinated and decisive. I also called for strengthening sanctions pressure on the aggressor," the minister added.

Shmyhal also thanked the US for its support and Kellogg for his personal efforts to advance a just and lasting peace.

Air defense systems for Ukraine

Previously, US President Donald Trump announced the transfer of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine through NATO allies.

Germany announced on August 1 that it would deliver two Patriot systems to Ukraine, initially providing launchers in the first stage. In the second stage, Berlin will deliver other system components over the next 2–3 months.

Recently, it became known that Germany has begun transferring two new Patriot systems to Ukraine.

Norway has allocated around $700 million for Patriot systems for Ukraine.

In addition, France and Germany will provide Ukraine with more air defense systems, and Ukraine is expected to receive an additional air defense system from Nordic countries and the Baltic states ahead of winter.

According to Defense Minister Denis Shmyhal, Ukraine urgently needs 10 additional Patriot missile systems, as well as missiles for these and other air defense systems, as Russia plans further strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
