Norway to fund $700M Patriot systems for Ukraine

Norway, together with Germany, is supplying Ukraine with Patriot systems and radar complexes to protect the civilian population and military infrastructure from Russian attacks, according to the country's government.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre announced that his country is allocating approximately 7 billion Norwegian kroner (approximately $695.7 million) to strengthen Ukraine's air defense.
According to him, together with Germany, Norway is supplying powerful air defense systems to support Ukraine in its fight to protect its territory and civilian population from Russian air attacks.
Norway and Germany are paying for two Patriot systems with missiles.
In addition, Oslo is contributing to the purchase of air defense radars from German manufacturer Hensoldt and air defense systems from Kongsberg.
Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik emphasized the importance of air defense for protecting both civilian and military facilities.
"Air defense is also crucial for protecting military units and infrastructure. Now, together with Germany, we are further stepping up our efforts," Sandvik said.
US and allies strengthening Ukraine's air defense
US President Donald Trump announced the transfer of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine at the expense of NATO allies.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Berlin is ready to transfer 2 Patriot systems. But only on condition that the equipment is quickly replaced.
On August 1, Germany announced the transfer of 2 Patriot systems to Ukraine. The first stage involves the delivery of launchers. In the second stage, Berlin will transfer other elements of the systems over the next 2-3 months.
