US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner will take part in trilateral talks with Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi, stated White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

"Special Envoy Witkoff and Jared Kushner will be in Abu Dhabi tomorrow for another round of trilateral talks," she said.

Leavitt noted that the trilateral talks held in Abu Dhabi on January 23–24 were "historic by nature."

"Never before have these all three of our countries really been able to sit down at the negotiating table to move the ball forward towards peace," she added.

Talks in Abu Dhabi

As previously reported, on February 2, Ukrainian officials departed for a meeting with Russian and US delegations in Abu Dhabi, scheduled for February 4–5.

The previous round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia took place in the UAE on January 23 and 24. According to RBC-Ukraine, the greatest progress at that time was made on military issues, while the territorial question remained unresolved.

In addition, another round of talks had initially been announced for February 1. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later said the meeting had been postponed and would instead take place on February 4–5 in Abu Dhabi.

In an interview, Zelenskyy said that resolving territorial issues would be impossible without a meeting with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.

On February 2, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin would be possible only in Moscow.

The Kremlin spokesman also described the peace talks as a very complex, multi-directional process, while noting that some progress had been made on certain issues.

Peskov also confirmed on February 2 that a second round of talks would take place in Abu Dhabi. The Russian delegation will be led by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Igor Kostyukov.
