US President Donald Trump criticized the Ukrainian government for alleged "ingratitude" during a meeting with US and Ukrainian officials in Geneva, and reiterated his claim that he "inherited the war" from 46th US President Joseph Biden.
Trump said the war between Ukraine and Russia "would never have happened" if both the US and Ukraine had "strong and proper leadership." He claimed the war in Ukraine was "inherited" by the 47th US President.
"It began long before I took office for a Second Term, during the Sleepy Joe Biden Administration, and has only gotten worse," he wrote on Truth Social.
He again accused Democrats of allegedly "stealing the 2020 election" from him and said the Ukrainian government "expressed zero gratitude" to the White House for peace efforts.
"I inherited a war that should have never happened, a war that is a loser for everyone... Europe continues to buy oil from Russia. The US continues to sell massive amounts of weapons to NATO for distribution to Ukraine," Trump said, blaming Biden for supposedly giving everything away for free.
On November 23 in Geneva, representatives from the US, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany are discussing the peace plan. Media reports indicate that if negotiations proceed smoothly, the final version will be agreed upon directly at a meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump.
Zelenskyy has already issued a statement following the opening round of talks in Geneva, noting that the US peace plan could incorporate elements that are critical to Ukraine's national interests.
Trump set November 27 as the deadline for agreeing on the peace plan and threatened to halt weapons and intelligence support to Ukraine. Following strong pushback from the EU and the US Congress, he acknowledged that the proposal is not final.
