President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a statement following the opening round of talks in Geneva. He said the US peace plan could incorporate elements that are critical to Ukraine's national interests.

Zelenskyy said the Ukrainian delegation is working in Geneva to find workable steps to end the war, restore peace, and ensure long-term security.

"There have already been brief reports from our delegation members about the outcomes of their first meetings and talks. Currently, there is an understanding that the American proposals may include a number of elements based on Ukrainian perspectives and critical for Ukrainian national interests," he said.

He added that work is underway to ensure those elements are effective and advance the main goal Ukrainians expect.

"To finally put an end to the bloodshed and war," Zelenskyy said.

US peace plan for Ukraine

Earlier this week, the United States unveiled a 28-point peace plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.

Under its terms, Ukraine would withdraw from Donbas, reduce the size of its Armed Forces, give up long-range weapons, and comply with several additional conditions. In exchange, Russia would return small occupied areas in other regions to Kyiv, while forces in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia would remain on the current front line.

The plan also provides security guarantees for Ukraine modeled on NATO-style commitments.

European leaders said the proposal could serve as a basis for peace but requires significant revisions. An updated version has already been sent from Europe to Washington.

US President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Kyiv, requiring agreement to the terms by November 27. He later clarified that the proposal is not final and remains subject to adjustment.

Discussions on the American plan are ongoing in Switzerland with participation from Ukraine, the United States, and European representatives. The parties are working to revise the document to make it more favorable to Kyiv.

According to Reuters, the final agreement is expected to be reached during a personal meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump.
