On Friday, October 17, US President Donald Trump will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House. The leaders are expected to discuss which types of weapons should be supplied to Kyiv, including the potential transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles, according to Axios.

"The two will discuss what weapons should be supplied to Ukraine, specifically if the U.S. should provide game-changing long-range Tomahawk missiles to the war-torn country," Axios reported.

An Axios source explained that "there are certain issues that can't be discussed on the phone."

According to the outlet, long-range missiles would enable Ukraine to target distant areas deep inside mainland Russia, including Moscow.

Zelenskyy is expected to arrive in the United States on Thursday, with the meeting with Trump scheduled for the following day.

Trump–Zelenskyy meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed yesterday that he plans to meet Donald Trump in Washington later this week. The US leader also confirmed to reporters that the meeting is set for Friday.

Over the past weekend, October 11 and 12, the two presidents held two consecutive phone calls, during which they reportedly discussed the possible transfer of Tomahawk missiles, Patriot air defense systems, and US assistance in rebuilding Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

A source from RBC-Ukraine also confirmed that Trump and Zelenskyy have recently been discussing several “important and sensitive topics,” including weapons, air defense, and diplomacy.

The last meeting between the two leaders took place on September 13 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, which Zelenskyy described as productive.

Meanwhile, Trump hinted yesterday at a renewed focus on ending Russia’s war against Ukraine. On October 13, Hamas returned Israeli hostages, and the US president, together with three Middle Eastern leaders, signed a peace deal on Gaza. In light of these developments, Trump stated that after the Gaza agreement, he plans to end the war in Ukraine.
