US President Donald Trump plans to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later this week, according to Christopher Miller, chief correspondent for the Financial Times in Kyiv.

According to the journalist, the meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy will take place on Friday, October 17, in Washington.

Trump and Zelenskyy held two phone conversations over the past weekend.

"I have just spoken with President Trump – for the second time in two days – and today’s conversation was also very productive," Zelenskyy said on X.

According to him, the discussions focused on strengthening Ukraine's air defense and providing assistance in restoring the energy sector. The day before, they also talked about Ukraine's protection, including air defense issues.

"Today, I received the necessary signals that the U.S. is considering ways to strengthen our cooperation. We are grateful for this," Zelenskyy said.

The last meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump

Zelenskyy last met Trump on September 23 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, calling the meeting productive. Afterward, both leaders made a series of statements.

In particular, it was revealed that Zelenskyy raised the issue of supplying Ukraine with US long-range Tomahawk missiles.

Trump recently surprised everyone by announcing that a decision to provide Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine is nearly finalized.

"I might have to speak to Russia, to be honest, about the Tomahawks. Do they want to have Tomahawks going in their direction? I don’t think so. I think I might speak to Russia about that, to be fair. As I talk to President Zelenskyy, because the Tomahawks are a new step of aggression. You understand that very well," the US president said.
