Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked Donald Trump to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles during a closed meeting, The Telegraph reports.

As reported by The Telegraph, citing its own sources, Zelenskyy told Trump that this weapon would help force Russian President Vladimir Putin to come to the negotiating table to discuss a peace deal.

According to the publication, the request was made during a meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the UN session, which was described as highly positive. However, it is not yet known whether Zelenskyy's efforts to obtain Tomahawks from the United States will be successful.

With a range of up to 1,500 miles and a warhead weighing 450 kg, this cruise missile is far more effective than any similar long-range weapon that Western allies have provided to Kyiv.

However, the former US President Joe Biden rejected a similar request, which was part of Zelenskyy's 10-point Victory Plan. At that time, the delivery of long-range missiles was considered too risky, as they could strike targets in Moscow and likely evade Russia's most advanced air defense systems, which could have escalated the conflict.

However, during one of his interviews, Zelenskyy revealed that during their meeting earlier this week, Trump said: "We will work on it."

Tomahawk

The Tomahawk is an American long-range cruise missile designed to strike land targets from sea and submarine platforms. It flies at low altitudes to make detection more difficult, is powered by a turbofan engine, and combines an inertial guidance system with satellite navigation (GPS) and terrain contour matching subsystems (TERCOM/DSMAC).

In terms of size and capabilities, the Tomahawk is a relatively large cruise missile: it is approximately 5.55–5.84 meters long (up to ~6.25 m with a booster), has a diameter of about 0.52 m, a launch weight of about 1,300–1,600 kg, and carries a single unitary warhead of about 450 kg or variants with submunitions; historically, there were also nuclear versions.

The range of the missile depends on the modification; for modern Block III/IV versions, it is typically around 900 nautical miles (~1,600 km). The missile flies at subsonic speed (~Mach 0.7) at low altitudes and has high accuracy due to the combination of GPS/INS, terrain correlation, and the ability of modern versions to receive two-way communication for target redirection during flight.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, there is a weapons system whose presence in Ukraine could accelerate the end of the war. US President Donald Trump is already aware of it.
