Foreign Minister of Türkiye Hakan Fidan said that Ankara is ready to provide a platform for delegations from Ukraine and Russia to resume the diplomatic process to resolve the war.

"We want the Russian-Ukrainian war to end as soon as possible through dialogue and on the basis of international law. At the current stage, we see that the diplomatic process has stalled, hostilities have intensified, and the sides are focused on achieving military gains," Fidan said at his joint press conference with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Ottawa.

He noted that the diplomatic process needs to be reactivated as soon as possible, and in this context, Türkiye is ready to host negotiations.

"In this context, I would like to inform the international public, as we have already told the parties, that we are ready to bring Russian and Ukrainian delegations together again at the negotiating table in our country," the minister added.

Fidan also addressed the upcoming NATO summit, which will take place in Ankara on July 7–8. According to him, the summit will be historic, and in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine, the development of the defense industry will be one of the key topics.

"In particular, with the Russian-Ukrainian war and other wars, there is now an awareness at the political and strategic level of the need to assess the current state of NATO countries in the defense industry sector," Fidan said, adding that this issue has already become strategically important.

In addition, the minister said that discussions on increasing defense spending have already been concluded, and allies must now demonstrate practical implementation of their commitments.

Peace talks

Yesterday, June 26, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine has put forward proposals to key partners and allies of Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding a possible meeting and an end to the war.

In addition, a few days ago, Zelenskyy said he had approved a 40-day operation for the Security Service of Ukraine, aimed at influencing Russia to push it toward ending the war.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently claimed that Moscow is ready to resume talks with Kyiv from where the sides left off.

At the same time, Vladimir Putin recently stated that there are no preconditions for negotiations with Ukraine and said Russia is only ready to talk on the basis of agreements reached in Istanbul.
