Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has started talking about resuming negotiations with Ukraine, according to Russian media.

“Russia is ready to resume negotiations with Ukraine from the point where they were stopped,” Lavrov said.

He also stated that the negotiations in Alaska could have been designed to “buy time" to arm the Ukrainian army.

Lavrov added that the EU is “pouring” money and weapons into Ukraine.

Lavrov also did not spare criticism of the United States. He accused the Trump administration of tightening sanctions, and that all statements after the Alaska talks were forgotten.

“Besides the continuation of all Biden-era sanctions, a considerable package of sanctions by the Trump administration against Russia has already been adopted,” he said.

“The United States is stepping back from its claim to the role of an objective mediator in the Russia-Ukraine war and is demanding an immediate ceasefire,” the statement says.

The latest round of trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States took place on February 17–18, 2026, in Geneva. The next meeting was scheduled for March 5 in Abu Dhabi, but it was postponed, after which no new date was set.

After threats of massive strikes on Ukraine, Moscow suddenly began talking about the advantages of diplomacy. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia prefers to achieve its goals through negotiations rather than force.

Meanwhile, tensions between Kyiv and Minsk are rising. The Kremlin reacted to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s ultimatum to Lukashenko. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov called it incitement to continue the war.
