Russian attack on Kyiv: Death toll rises to 12, children among victims

The number of people killed as a result of the Russian strike on Kyiv has risen to 12, including two children. Rescue operations are ongoing in the Darnytskyi district of the capital, according to a statement from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS).
Search and rescue operations are ongoing at the site of destruction in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv. Psychologists and three canine units of the State Emergency Service are working at the scene.
About 170 rescuers and 51 pieces of equipment have been deployed to deal with the aftermath. Specialists continue clearing the rubble and searching for people who may still be trapped under the collapsed structures.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko clarified that, according to medical officials, a 15-year-old girl is among the dead. Another 57 people were injured.
The Kyiv mayor also noted that 27 of the injured are currently receiving inpatient treatment in city hospitals.
Kyiv strike on the night of May 14: Latest updates
On the night of Thursday, Kyiv came under a combined attack, which caused the destruction of structural elements of a residential building in the Darnytskyi district. According to preliminary information, people may still be trapped under the rubble.
May 15 has been declared a day of mourning in Kyiv for those killed in the latest large-scale attack on the capital. As Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated, flags will be flown at half-mast on municipal buildings that day.
City authorities also recommended lowering flags on all public and private institutions.
Ukraine has initiated an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in response to the massive strikes on civilians and the killing of humanitarian workers as a result of Russian forces’ actions.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed the defense forces and intelligence services to develop response measures to the large-scale Russian attack.
According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the attack began on the evening of May 13 at around 06:00 pm Kyiv time.
Radiotechnical troops of the Air Force tracked and monitored 731 aerial attack assets, including 56 missiles and 675 drones.
As of 08:00 am on May 14, air defense forces had shot down or suppressed 693 targets, including 41 missiles and 652 drones of various types.
