Ukraine is initiating an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council over a massive strike on civilians and the killing of humanitarian personnel by Russian forces, according to a statement by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

Response to terror and engagement of diplomats

The head of the Foreign Ministry said he had already instructed the immediate convening of the United Nations Security Council and the use of other international platforms.

According to him, the world must see the consequences of Russian aggression with its own eyes.

"I instructed all of our embassies to lower flags tomorrow and open books of condolences. Additionally, tomorrow morning, we will invite the foreign diplomatic corps — all foreign ambassadors in Kyiv — to visit one of the sites where the Russian attack left an entire part of a multi-storey resident building ruined," said Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

He added that the scale of terror requires a decisive response from all states, as Russia responds to Ukraine’s peace proposals with violence.

Consequences of the large-scale attack

According to the minister, between the evening of May 13 and the morning of May 14, Russia launched 675 drones and 56 missiles of various types, including ballistic missiles, at Ukraine.

As a result of the strikes, more than 50 sites across the country were damaged, including 11 residential buildings in the capital.

In Kyiv, at least 8 people were killed, including a 12-year-old girl. Dozens more were injured, and the fate of 20 people remains unknown.

"The world must see that Russia’s response to all of our constructive peace proposals is more terror and violence, and act accordingly," the minister stressed.

Attack on Kyiv on May 14

On the night of May 14, Russia carried out one of the largest attacks on Ukraine, launching a record number of drones and missiles.

The most severe consequences were recorded in Kyiv, where in the Darnytskyi district, a Russian missile hit a residential nine-story building, completely destroying one of the entrances and causing deaths and numerous injuries.

The Patrol Police released video of the first minutes after the tragedy, showing rescue operations as residents were evacuated from damaged apartments.

Due to the mass civilian casualties, the city authorities declared May 15 a day of mourning in the capital.
