Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he has instructed Ukraine’s Defense Forces and special services to prepare a response to the massive Russian attack.
“I instructed Ukraine’s Defense Forces and special services to propose possible formats for our response to this Russian strike,” the statement said.
He noted that during the waves of massive Russian attacks on May 13 and 14, a total of 1,567 drones and 56 missiles of various types were used. The head of state stressed that the interception rate for drones reached 94%, while 73% of the missiles were shot down.
“This is a deliberate terrorist tactic by the Russians, who accumulated drones and missiles over a certain period of time and intentionally calculated the strike in a way that would maximize its scale and create the greatest possible difficulties for our air defenses,” the president said.
Massive strike on Ukraine
As a reminder, on the night of May 14, the aggressor country launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine using kamikaze drones and missiles of various types.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russian forces fired 56 missiles and 675 drones at Ukraine overnight. Damage was recorded in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and several other regions across the country.
In the capital, seven people are currently confirmed dead and 39 injured. At least 20 people are still considered missing.
According to Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat, it was one of the most powerful attacks of the entire full-scale war. He noted that the Russians used virtually their entire arsenal of available aerial attack weapons.
It should also be noted that Russia’s Defense Ministry came up with a cynical justification for the prolonged combined attack on Ukraine. Specifically, the Russian ministry claimed it had carried out a so-called “retaliation attack.”
More details about the consequences of the overnight massive attack on Ukraine can be found in RBC-Ukraine’s report.
