Russian forces ignore ceasefire announcements and have intensified pressure on Ukraine's eastern and southern fronts. The highest number of clashes has been recorded in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole directions, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Eastern and northern front situation

According to the General Staff, Russian forces made 17 attempts in the Pokrovsk direction to push Ukrainian troops back from their positions toward the settlements of Bilytske, Nykanorivka, Dorozhnie, Rodynske, Novooleksandrivka, Udachne, Vasylivka, Molodetske, and Novomykolaivka. Two assaults in this sector are still ongoing.

The Kostiantynivka direction faced seven assaults, and the Lyman direction — four. Separate attacks by Russian forces were also reported at the Kramatorsk, Southern-Slobozhanskyi, and Kursk fronts.

Shelling of border areas, activity in southern sectors

Russia undertook 13 attacks against the Ukrainian defenders' positions in the Huliaipole direction. Fighting took place near the settlements of Nove Zaporizhzhia, Rybne, Tsvitkove, Zaliznychne, and others.

Russians are also actively shelling the Sumy region. Today, strikes hit areas near the settlements of Rohizne, Volfyne, Koreniok, Atynske, Ulanove, and Kucherivka.

No active offensive actions by Russian forces have currently been recorded in the Kupiansk, Sloviansk, Orikhiv, and Prydniprovskyi directions.

Russia violates its declared "ceasefire"

On May 7, Russia officially announced a unilateral "ceasefire" from 00:00 a.m. on May 8 to May 10. The Kremlin claimed that all Russian frontline units would fully halt combat operations during this period, although the announcement was accompanied by threats against Ukraine in case of any "disruption of celebrations" in Moscow.

However, on the night of May 9, despite its own pledge to stop fighting, Russia launched an attack on Ukrainian territory using an Iskander-M ballistic missile and 43 strike drones. Air defense forces managed to intercept 34 drones, but several hits were recorded.

At the same time, US President Donald Trump suggested that the ceasefire could last more than three days and potentially extend beyond May 11. However, the actual situation on the ground and the overnight attack indicate continued disregard by Russia for any agreements.
