Ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia

Earlier this week, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a ceasefire with Ukraine on May 8 and 9.

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for not waiting for that date and for a silence regime to begin on the night of May 6.

Russia, for its part, violated the ceasefire by attacking several Ukrainian cities, prompting Kyiv to respond in kind on the night of May 8. In particular, Moscow, Yaroslavl, Rostov, and other cities were targeted.

On the evening of May 8, US President Donald Trump stated that there would be a three-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, on May 9, 10, and 11, and that a prisoner exchange would take place.

Following this, Zelenskyy confirmed the information regarding the prisoner exchange and issued a decree to exclude Red Square in Moscow from Ukraine’s targets for the duration of the parade.
