US President Donald Trump does not rule out that the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia could continue even after May 11, according to a post by Rapid Response 47 on the social network X.
During an exchange with journalists, Trump was asked whether he expects the three-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia that he announced to last longer than that period. The US leader responded as follows:
"Maybe. It could be. It'd be nice. I'd like to see it stop, Russia, Ukraine. It's the worst thing since WW2 in terms of life. 25,000 young soldiers every month. It's crazy," Trump said.
Ukraine-Russia ceasefire
At the beginning of the week, the Russian Defense Ministry announced a ceasefire with Ukraine on May 8 and 9. However, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called not to wait for that date and to start a silence regime on the night of the 6th.
Russia, for its part, violated the ceasefire by attacking several Ukrainian cities, causing Kyiv to respond in kind on the night of May 8. In particular, at least Moscow, Yaroslavl, Rostov, and others were hit.
US President Donald Trump on the evening of May 8 (Kyiv time) announced that there would be a three-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia — on the 9th, 10th, and 11th — as well as a prisoner exchange.
After that, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the announcement regarding the prisoner exchange and issued a decree not to exclude Red Square in Moscow from Ukraine's targets during the parade. As for other regions, Kyiv will act reciprocally — if Russia violates the ceasefire, Ukraine will do the same.
