US President Donald Trump says he will meet in person with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, later to discuss the war in Ukraine, according to Sky News.
"Look, Russia should make a deal. Russia's lost tremendous amounts of people, and so has Ukraine. Last month, they lost 35,000 soldiers between the two. [...] It's crazy what's going on there," Trump emphasizes.
The US President also notes that on Sunday, June 14, he spoke with Vladimir Putin.
"They just keep going, fighting, losing soldiers. They lose so many soldiers," the American leader says.
He also notes that there is "a lot of dislike" between Zelenskyy and Putin.
After the Iranian crisis ended, Donald Trump stated that Washington planned to focus on resolving the war between Russia and Ukraine. He also emphasized that the war claimed the lives of about 25,000 people every month.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump discussed the possibility of organizing a meeting with the Kremlin leader in the US, in a format that Putin would find harder to refuse. Zelenskyy warned that if Russia refuses, additional pressure on Moscow would be needed.
Ukraine had previously conveyed a proposal to Russia through intermediaries, diplomatic channels, and intelligence agencies regarding a meeting of leaders on the sidelines of the G7 summit with the participation of the US President.
