Russia’s massive Ukraine strike prompts Poland and allies to launch air patrols

Poland, together with allied countries, scrambled military aircraft overnight on May 25 in response to Russia’s combined attack on Ukraine. Additionally, ground-based air defense systems and radar reconnaissance units were put on high alert, according to the Twitter (X) account of the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
The statement from the Polish military department says that due to the attack by Russia, which is striking targets located on the territory of Ukraine, Polish and allied aviation have begun operations in our airspace.
The Polish side notes that these actions are carried out in accordance with established procedures.
The Polish Operational Command added that the operational commander deployed all available forces and resources at his disposal, with fighter jet pairs scrambled into the air, and ground-based air defense systems and radar reconnaissance reaching the highest state of readiness.
They said the measures taken are aimed at ensuring security in areas bordering zones considered at risk.
The Polish Armed Forces Operational Command is monitoring the current situation, and its subordinate forces and assets remain fully prepared for immediate response.
Combined attack on the night of May 25
Yesterday evening, Russian forces launched several groups of kamikaze drones toward Ukraine, prompting air raid alerts across multiple regions. Reports indicated air defense operations in Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Amid the drone attack, explosions were heard in Odesa. Kyiv also experienced a series of explosions due to a massive enemy drone strike. In the capital, a residential five-story building in the Holosiivskyi district was damaged, a fire broke out, and casualties were reported.
Similarly, a series of explosions occurred in Mykolaiv following drone strikes. Kharkiv also experienced explosions from drone attacks, resulting in a fire and three reported injured. Air defense activity was also noted in Chernihiv, with explosions heard on the city outskirts.
Additionally, Russian forces launched missiles from strategic aviation against targets in Ukraine overnight. Monitoring groups also reported launches of Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea.
