Late on May 9, Russian forces attacked the city of Kharkiv using drones. The strike hit a residential high-rise building, leaving civilians injured, according to Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov and Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
Notably, the attack was launched during a three-day ceasefire declared between Ukraine and Russia. However, this did not prevent the Russian army from striking the city.
"The enemy carried out a drone strike on the Industrialnyi district of Kharkiv. According to preliminary information, the hit in a nine-story residential building was recorded," Military Head Syniehubov said at 10:22 p.m.
About 20 minutes later, Mayor Terekhov clarified that the drone struck the building's technical floor. The strike damaged the elevator shaft and shattered around 30 windows.
In addition, an 8-year-old boy experienced an acute stress reaction, and later the number of injuries rose to three.
Later, Syniehubov reported that another 8-year-old boy in Kharkiv also suffered an acute stress reaction. Thus, the number of people affected by the Russian attack has risen to four.
Ceasefire broken?
Previously, on May 8, US President Donald Trump stated that, at his request, Ukraine and Russia had agreed to a three-day ceasefire on May 9, 10, and 11, along with a prisoner swap. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also confirmed Ukraine's agreement to the ceasefire and allowed the Moscow parade to be conducted.
Trump even suggested that the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia could last longer than three days.
