Romania confirms ongoing military support to Ukraine but no new Patriot deal yet

Romania will continue to support Ukraine in the military sphere. However, the issue of possibly transferring another Romanian Patriot system to Kyiv has not yet been discussed, Romanian President Nicușor Dan said during a joint press conference with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, according to Digi24.
"As for Romania's support for Ukraine, it will continue, including in the military sphere, but the issue of the Patriot system has not been discussed yet," he said in response to journalists' questions.
Romania has a deal with the United States worth over 3.9 billion USD for seven Patriot air defense systems. Four of them have been received — but one was transferred to Ukraine. The remaining three systems are scheduled to arrive in Romania starting from 2027.
Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine
On July 13, US President Donald Trump announced the transfer of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, funded by NATO allies. Initially, he stated that Kyiv would receive 17 systems. However, it was later clarified that the US president was referring to 17 launchers.
Germany has agreed to provide two Patriot systems. The Netherlands has also pledged a significant contribution to supplying US-made air defense systems. Another donor is Norway, which is expected to make an "important contribution" to Ukraine's air defense.
According to media reports, Ukraine received a new Patriot air defense system this week. This is one of the systems whose transfer had been previously discussed with German government officials.
