Netherlands to help deliver Patriot systems to Ukraine - Defense Minister

The Netherlands will make a significant contribution to the transfer of US-made Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
This was announced by Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans, according to his post on social media platform X.
During an online meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, the minister recalled that "we are independently providing additional air defense assets, including F-16 ammunition, counter-drone systems, radars, and more."
In a related statement published on the Dutch Defense Ministry’s website, Ruben Brekelmans noted that Russia’s air terror campaign "has recently reached new levels," adding that "Russia’s goal is simple – to break the unshakable Ukrainian people."
"We cannot allow that to happen. That is why we aim to make a significant contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s air defense," Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans stated. "Much has already been done, but more is needed. Only by continuing to support Ukraine relentlessly and at scale, and increasing pressure on Russia, can we force Moscow to come to the negotiating table."
Europe must not fall behind
Brekelmans said that consultations are currently underway with the United States and other allies regarding the US-led initiative to supply additional weapons systems, including Patriot air defense systems. He stressed that "it is essential for all of Europe to contribute."
"Ukraine is defending the front line against Russian aggression on behalf of all of Europe. If Russia breaks through, it would immediately pose a greater threat to the rest of Europe and NATO," he emphasized.
According to the Dutch Defense Ministry, air defense remains a top priority in the Netherlands’ military support for Ukraine.
"In addition to the Patriot system, the Dutch government has provided 24 F-16 fighter jets along with the necessary ammunition and spare parts, several anti-aircraft guns, and I-HAWK systems. The Netherlands is also supplying Ukraine with drone-detection radars and naval vessels equipped with air defense systems," the ministry stated.
Additional Patriot systems for Ukraine
Recently, US President Donald Trump announced plans to transfer 17 Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine to help defend against Russian ballistic missile attacks. European allies are expected to purchase the systems from the US and deliver them to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
At the 29th Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting, all participating countries pledged to help Ukraine strengthen its air defense with additional Patriot systems.
Germany, in particular, committed to purchasing five Patriot systems from the US for Ukraine.
In addition, Germany and Norway will cover the cost of systems slated for delivery to Kyiv.
