US, Germany agree to deliver 5 Patriot systems to Ukraine

Berlin will provide Ukraine with additional air defense systems and necessary ammunition, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said at a Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting.
"Germany will provide additional air defense systems and necessary ammunition," he said.
During a trip to Washington last week, Pistorius reached an agreement with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Germany's participation in providing five Patriot systems.
"Besides, during my trip to Washington last week, I agreed with Pete Hagseth that Germany will contribute to the provision of five urgently needed Patriot systems as soon as possible," Pistorius said.
He also emphasized that the parties will coordinate actions to achieve this goal in the coming days.
Patriot for Ukraine
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that the US would send Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, but Europe would pay for them.
During a meeting with the NATO Secretary General on July 14, Trump announced the transfer of 17 Patriot systems to Ukraine. According to him, these systems can be deployed quickly.
A few days later, the US president said that the first Patriot missiles were already being shipped to the allies.
Later, the German government denied the US president's statement that Patriot air defense systems were already being delivered to Ukraine.
