Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that Russia will continue to consistently pursue its goals in Ukraine, according to Russian media.
"Moscow hopes that Kyiv will realize the need for sustainable peace, and until that happens, Russia will continue to pursue its stated objectives," Putin said in a statement.
The Kremlin leader added that achieving peace in Ukraine requires a return to discussions on a "new security architecture" proposed by Russia. He claimed that the crisis around Ukraine is a direct result of ignoring Russia’s interests and creating threats to Russian security.
US peace plan
Earlier, a meeting of the so-called Coalition of the Willing was held in Paris at the leaders’ level, after which Kyiv, Paris, and London signed a declaration of intent regarding the deployment of a Western contingent on Ukrainian territory.
In addition, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump have reportedly agreed on 90% of the American peace plan. The document is expected to be put to a referendum.
Previously, on January 7, Kremlin special envoy Kirill Dmitriev was spotted in Paris. According to media reports, he was received at the US embassy.
Axios reported that Trump advisers Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Dmitriev in Paris to discuss the US peace plan for Ukraine.
Zelenskyy expressed hope that Russia would respond to the 20-point peace plan by the end of this month. He said he wants to receive that response before finalizing security guarantees and a reconstruction plan with US President Donald Trump.
The United Kingdom and France are considering sending up to 15,000 troops to Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement. This would be significantly fewer than the figures previously discussed within the Coalition of the Willing.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine’s allies must respond in the event of renewed Russian aggression after the war ends.
