Iran is preparing for a prolonged conflict and plans to continue striking countries in the Persian Gulf. Only "economic pain" can stop the war, states Kamal Kharazi, foreign policy advisor to the office of Iran's Supreme Leader, according to CNN.

Kharazi stated that the Iranian government is prepared for a prolonged war with the United States.

The Iranian official also indicated that his country is ready to continue attacks on Persian Gulf states in order to pressure them to help convince US President Donald Trump to step back from the conflict.

"I don’t see any room for diplomacy anymore. Because Donald Trump had been deceiving others and not keeping with his promises, and we experienced this in two times of negotiations – that while we were engaged in negotiation, they struck us," Kharazi said.

Only economic pressure can stop the war

According to the Iranian official, the war will end only through economic suffering, which CNN notes reflects the government’s hardline stance on the 10th day of the conflict.

"There’s no room unless the economic pressure would be built up to the extent that other countries would intervene to guarantee (the) termination of the aggression of Americans and Israelis against Iran," he emphasized.

He thus hinted that the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, together with other nations, must pressure the US to end the war.

"This war has been producing a lot of pressure – economic pressure – on others, in terms of inflation, in terms of lack of energy, and so if it will be continued, this pressure will be built up more, and therefore others have no choice (but) to intervene," Kharazi said.

US and Israeli operation against Iran

On February 28, Israel and the US launched an operation against Iran, which resulted in the elimination of the Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

In addition, Trump announced a major strike against Iran in the event of further escalation, warning of the possibility of "total destruction" of regime targets if they threaten US interests.

Beyond military pressure, Washington is also considering strategic moves in the region. In particular, it became known that Trump expressed interest in deploying military bases at key points in the Middle East to deter Tehran.

Furthermore, the US is considering the possibility of controlling a strategic island in the Strait of Hormuz to block Iranian oil and weapons supply routes.
