US President Donald Trump expressed serious interest in the idea of deploying American troops in Iran. This did not involve a full-scale ground invasion, but rather a contingent assigned to specific missions, according to NBC News.

According to sources, Trump discussed the idea with aides and Republican Party representatives, outlining his vision for a postwar Iran.

In his view, Iran's uranium reserves would be secured, and the US and a new Iranian regime would cooperate on oil production, similar to how the US works with Venezuela.

Trump's statements expressing serious interest in ground forces did not involve a large-scale invasion of Iran.

Instead, it was about a small US troop contingent for specific strategic purposes.

Sources also said that Trump did not make any decisions or issue orders regarding ground forces.

Meanwhile, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt called the story "based on assumptions of anonymous sources" who are not part of Trump's national security team and were not involved in the discussions.

However, publicly, the US president did not rule out the possibility of deploying American troops in Iran, even though so far the conflict has been limited to air operations.

Trump's plans for Iran

It should be recalled that the day before, Trump said he wanted a complete change of leadership in Iran. In one interview, he said he had several candidates for a "good leader."

Later that day, Trump also said no deal with Iran should be expected, emphasizing that he only considers unconditional surrender from Tehran.

He later clarified that by "unconditional surrender," he meant fully stripping Iran of the ability to conduct military operations, not just formally signing documents.
