US President Donald Trump made it clear that he wants a complete change of leadership in Iran. According to his comments to NBC News, he said he already has several candidates in mind for the role of a “good leader.”

“We want to go in and clean out everything. We don’t want someone who would rebuild over a 10-year period,” Trump emphasized.

He added that the US wants Iran to have a good leader, and that Washington already has some people in mind.

Donald Trump said: "We have some people who I think would do a good job," refusing to name anyone specifically.

At the same time, he added that he is taking all steps to ensure that people on his list survive and make it through the war.

“We are watching them, yeah,” the White House leader said.

When asked who would eventually lead Iran in the future, the US president replied:

“I don’t know, but at some point they’ll be calling me to ask who I’d like,” Trump said, adding that he was “only being a little sarcastic when I say that.”

The White House leader also reacted to statements by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who said that Tehran is ready for a ground invasion by US and Israeli forces. Trump called it a waste of time, emphasizing that he is not currently thinking about deploying ground troops.

“It’s a waste of time. They’ve lost everything. They’ve lost their navy. They’ve lost everything they can lose,” Trump said, adding that the pace and intensity of the strikes will be maintained.

Operation against Iran

On February 28, Israel, together with the US, began bombing Iran. As a result of the airstrikes, Tehran lost nearly fifty of the country’s highest-ranking officials.

Recently, US President Donald Trump announced that Washington wants to intervene in the process of selecting a new leader of Iran. He explained that Ali Khamenei's son, Mojtaba Khamenei, does not suit Washington.

According to Trump, he has three candidates for the country’s leadership role, but he has not yet named them. At the same time, he noted that the worst scenario for Iran would be if someone as bad as the current regime came to power.
