Orbán calls statement on Europe's participation in Ukraine talks 'worthless'

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán believes that statements about Europe's participation in peace talks on Ukraine are meaningless.
"This declaration is a sad testament of bad Brusselian leadership. While President Trump and President Putin negotiate on peace, EU officials issue worthless statements," Orbán wrote.
In his opinion, a seat at the negotiating table must be earned through strength, good leadership, and smart diplomacy.
"The position of Brussels - to support killing as long as it takes - is morally and politically unacceptable," he said.
Trump's calls to Putin and Zelenskyy
Yesterday, US President Donald Trump spoke on the phone with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Afterward, Trump also held talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Later, Trump said that it was unlikely that Ukraine would return to the borders of 2014.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized during his visit to Ukraine that the head of the White House wants the war to end as soon as possible. Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte believes that the talks between Trump and Putin may indicate the start of negotiations on Ukraine.
At the same time, a number of European and Ukrainian media outlets have begun to claim that the direct conversation between Trump and Putin may indicate that the United States can negotiate peace in Ukraine without the participation of Ukraine and European countries.
In particular, British Defense Secretary John Healey believes that negotiations on Ukraine cannot take place without it and that Ukraine's voice should be at the center of any negotiations.
At the same time, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Trump does not yet have a ready-made plan to end Russia's war against Ukraine. Work on it will begin in February.
