Russian forces struck a coal mine administration facility belonging to Ukraine's energy holding DTEK in the Dnipropetrovsk region on the evening of July 3. One employee was killed, and five others were injured in the attack, according to the company's Telegram channel.
"Tragic news. Yesterday, one of our facilities in the Dnipropetrovsk region came under attack. A security service employee was killed. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Five other employees were injured. Our colleagues are receiving all necessary assistance," the company said.
DTEK says the strike caused extensive damage. At the time of the attack, 86 workers were underground in the mine after the facility lost power. All of them were immediately taken to the surface.
The company's operations have currently been suspended.
"We are assessing the extent of the damage and preparing for emergency repair work as soon as conditions allow," DTEK said.
Other strikes launched by Russia
Last month, on June 7, Russian forces attacked a DTEK mine in the Dnipropetrovsk region twice in one day. The strikes damaged the facility's life-support systems and injured one employee.
As previously reported, DTEK miners working in frontline regions have faced growing challenges since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion due to constant strikes.
Also, the media recently reported that DTEK continues preparations at its mines for the upcoming winter.
