Kyiv rocked by attacks: University and building hit, fires erupt, streets blocked

Hit in the Shevchenkivskyi district

An enemy drone hit a residential building. As a result, a fire broke out in part of the building.

"In the Shevchenkivskyi district, as a result of a UAV strike, a fire broke out in a six-story residential building," Kyiv mayor wrote.

It later became known that the building was seriously damaged.

"In the Shevchenkivskyi district, where a UAV hit a six-story residential building, partial destruction of the building occurred. There is also a fire in a three-story building nearby," the mayor added.

The Kyiv City Military Administration also reported that a medical facility was damaged in the district. According to the mayor, some of the windows in the premises were blown out.

"The premises of one of the medical facilities were damaged as a result of the attack — some of the windows were blown out. There are preliminarily no casualties among patients and staff."

Number of people injured rises

Authorities updated the data on those injured several times throughout the morning. As of noon, the mayor reported that seven people had been injured, five of whom were hospitalized.

"Emergency services are working at the sites of the strikes in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the city," he added.

Strike on a university

The enemy also hit one of Kyiv's universities — at the very time when classes were underway, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

At the time of the attack, 160 students were in the shelter, and there were no casualties.

The National University of Food Technologies was targeted in the attack, according to Minister of Education and Science Andrii Butenko.

“The university buildings have been damaged. None of the students or faculty members were injured,” said Minister of Education and Science Butenko.

The university commented on the attack as follows: “Unfortunately, we have significant damage to some of the buildings. The number of casualties is being determined.”

Later, another hit was recorded in the Holosiivskyi district — this time on a warehouse building.

"In the Holosiivskyi district, preliminarily, a UAV hit a warehouse building," the mayor said.

Initially, information about explosions in the area of the railway station circulated online, but this information was not confirmed.

Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) later clarified that no strikes on railway infrastructure in central Kyiv had been recorded.

According to the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, nine people have been injured as a result of the attack on Kyiv.

“A university building, five residential buildings, a kindergarten, and warehouses have been damaged,” the statement reads.

Damage has been reported in the Holosiivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts of the capital.

Streets closed in Kyiv

Due to the consequences of the attack, vehicle traffic was temporarily restricted in central Kyiv.

The restrictions are in effect on the following sections:

• Tarasivska Street — from Saksahanskoho Street to the intersection with Hetmana Pavla Skoropadskoho Street;
• Mykilsko-Botanichna Street — from Pankivska Street to the intersection with Tarasivska Street.

Meanwhile, Odesa came under a massive drone and missile attack, which damaged a high-rise building and educational institutions.

Eight people were injured, including a child.

Earlier, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin said he had ordered the Russian army to prepare massive strikes on Ukraine's energy facilities.

He explained this as an alleged response to Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries.
