Russia hits Ukraine's Odesa overnight, damaging high-rise and schools

Russian forces launched a massive attack on the Ukrainian city of Odesa overnight on September 2. The strikes damaged a high-rise residential building, caused power outages, and left several people injured, including a child, according to Serhii Lysak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration.
Odesa came under attack overnight by drones, Banderol loitering munitions, and guided aerial bombs. In addition, it is possible that ballistic missiles were also used. According to Lysak, the attack damaged infrastructure.
"A 24-story residential building was damaged. Apartments on several floors were destroyed. Windows were shattered in nearby buildings, and cars were damaged," the statement said.
In addition, office buildings and two educational institutions were damaged.

So far, eight people are known to have been injured, including one child. Two people were hospitalized.
Serhii Lysak added that specialists continue to assess the aftermath of the attack in several districts of the city. Work is also underway to restore power.
"Emergency and municipal services are working at the sites. Energy workers are trying to restore power as quickly as possible. Emergency response centers have been set up for residents, where they can receive the necessary assistance," he concluded.
Attacks on Odesa
Yesterday, September 1, Russian forces also launched a massive attack on Odesa. Energy facilities and civilian sites in the city were targeted.
On the evening of August 31, Russian forces launched drone and missile strikes on the Odesa Thermal Power Plant, which is part of Naftogaz Group. Equipment at the facility was damaged in the attack.
