US President Donald Trump announced upcoming peace talks with Iran in Pakistan following an agreement on a two-week ceasefire, according to The New York Post.
According to Donald Trump, Pakistan has proposed holding a summit in Islamabad in the near future.
The American leader noted that the negotiation team could include special envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and possibly Vice President JD Vance, although his participation has not yet been confirmed due to security concerns.
"We’ll have Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, JD — maybe JD, I don’t know. There’s a question of safety, security," Trump explained.
He emphasized that he expects a personal meeting with the Iranian side "very soon." In this way, he indicated that the ceasefire is viewed by Washington as an interim step toward attempting to reach a lasting agreement.
Earlier, Trump stated that the US is ready for a two-week ceasefire with Iran if a peace agreement can be reached during that time. In response, the Iranian side pledged to resume shipping in the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks.
At the same time, in an interview with Sky News, Trump warned that Washington is ready to return to hostilities if the agreement does not meet US conditions.
