Lithuania warns Russia's massive air strike signals dangerous escalation in Ukraine

Massive strikes on Kyiv and across Ukraine on the night of September 7 signal that the Russian regime has entered a new phase of war. The Kremlin used a record number of drones and missiles, Lithuania's Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said.
According to Budrys, Russian aggression against Ukraine is intensifying daily. On September 7, Ukraine suffered an unprecedented attack. Russia launched over 800 drones and missiles at multiple regions across the country.
The strikes damaged residential buildings and infrastructure. There were casualties, including deaths and injuries. Even a government building was targeted.
"This marks a dangerous new phase in Moscow's terror campaign — all while President Trump and European leaders are working for peace," Budrys said.
He added that instead of pursuing negotiations, the Russian regime is escalating violence and openly rejecting diplomacy. The Kremlin's audacity must not go unanswered.
"Russia needs tougher sanctions, while Ukraine must get advanced air defense systems — now. Delay only fuels more aggression," he said.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer shares a similar view. He said the night of massive strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities shows that Russian leader Vladimir Putin does not take peace demands seriously and can "act with impunity."
Russia's massive strike on Ukraine
On the night of September 7, Russian forces carried out a massive combined attack on Ukraine. They launched a record 810 drones and 13 missiles. Kyiv, Kremenchuk, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, and Kryvyi Rih were all targeted.
In Kyiv, residential buildings and the Cabinet of Ministers were damaged. A fire broke out over 1,000 square meters. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a nine-story building was hit, killing a woman and a small child, and injuring more than 20 people.
Across Ukraine, four people were killed and 44 were injured in the attacks. For more details on the aftermath, read RBC-Ukraine's report.
