Against the backdrop of new statements by US President Donald Trump following the G7 summit regarding the war in Ukraine, Moscow claimed that European leaders had been “filling” the American president with “harmful ideas,” according to Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s aide, Yuri Ushakov.
“The Ukrainian issue was actively discussed during the G7 summit session. As one might assume, Trump was being filled, I would say, probably not with useful ideas, if not outright harmful ones,” Ushakov said.
He added that following the G7 summit, the Kremlin had not yet had any contacts with the Trump administration.
G7 summit
As a reminder, on June 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the G7 meeting, which was also attended by US President Donald Trump.
Following the meeting, the G7 countries issued a joint statement saying they had reached agreements on a number of issues related to Ukraine.
In particular, the parties agreed to increase supplies of air defense equipment to Ukraine, including additional air defense systems and interceptor missiles.
On the evening of June 15, G7 leaders gathered for dinner and collectively tried to convince Trump that Russia was losing ground on the battlefield and that Ukraine was gaining the upper hand.
The main message was that a “wounded” Moscow was acting out of desperation.
In addition, Zelenskyy personally showed the US president photographs of the damage inflicted on the Dormition Cathedral following a Russian strike, and the images reportedly made a strong impression on him.
The following day, Trump firmly backed Ukraine in the joint G7 declaration.
He also praised Ukraine for its successes in the war against Russia.
Furthermore, media outlets reported that Trump plans to approach American defense companies with a proposal to manufacture weapons under license in Europe and Ukraine.
