Kallas urges more US-EU cooperation on Ukraine arms

The United States must share the burden of supplying and financing American weapons for Ukraine, said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas during a press conference.
"We welcome President Trump's announcement to send more weapons to Ukraine, although we would like to see the US share the burden," Kallas said. "America and Europe are working together, and if we are working together, this can put the pressure on Putin to negotiate seriously."
She emphasized that "the only way to get Putin to end this war is to force his hand."
Europe to purchase US weapons for Ukraine
On July 14, the United States and NATO finalized an agreement under which American weapons will be sent to Ukraine, funded by European countries. Several nations — including Sweden, Denmark, and Germany — have already agreed to contribute.
Meanwhile, Czechia will not join the initiative, choosing instead to focus on other projects aimed at supporting Kyiv.
Under the deal, Ukraine is expected to receive up to $10 billion worth of American weapons, which will be purchased by European countries directly from the US.
According to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the agreement could provide Ukraine with a significant number of air defense systems, missiles, and ammunition.
As reported by media outlets, the US will not directly transfer weapons to Ukraine. Instead, NATO countries will supply arms from their own stockpiles and later replenish them with US-made equipment.
