In negotiations to end Russia's war against Ukraine, pressure should be applied to the aggressor, not the victim, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said in an interview with Suspilne.

"I want to emphasize that there is one aggressor and one victim here. In fact, pressure should be put on Russia, not on Ukraine, to make it agree to some additional concessions. Also, the fact that Ukraine agreed to an unconditional ceasefire is already a concession made by Kyiv," Kallas said.

She stressed that since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has not made a single concession.

"They (the Russians) have not changed their goals. And to really stop this war, we need to put pressure on the aggressor, not on the victim," the EU's top diplomat emphasized.

Trump–Putin meeting

On Friday, August 15, a meeting will take place between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

Yesterday, the US president said that he plans to demand that Putin end the war.

Trump seeks to reach a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine during the upcoming meeting with the Russian president.

Earlier, Trump also stated about the possibility of a "territory exchange" between Ukraine and Russia, including the return of some lands.

In response, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reminded that the territorial issue is enshrined in the Constitution, and Ukraine will not give its land to the occupiers. The President of Ukraine also stressed that Russia is promoting the idea of such an "exchange" without any guarantees.

Later, Trump said that the US and its partners would try to return to Ukraine part of the territory occupied by Russia. However, certain land exchanges would still take place.
