Israel pursues two key goals in the war against Iran — the destruction of Tehran's nuclear program and missile potential, Israel's ambassador to Ukraine, Michael Brodsky, said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
Answering a question about Israel's goals in the war against Iran and their alignment with the US position, the diplomat noted that they may differ.
"I, of course, cannot speak on behalf of Donald Trump (US president - ed.) or the United States, but I fully allow that Israeli goals are narrower," he said.
According to Brodsky, as of today, "there are two goals of this war from Israel's point of view."
The first is to destroy Iran's nuclear program and make its restoration impossible in the coming years or even decades.
The second is to eliminate the country's missile potential, including missiles, launchers, and the production of missiles and drones on Iran's territory.
As the diplomat emphasized, this is necessary so that even if the current regime remains, Iran will not be able to restore military programs and continue to threaten neighboring countries and the whole world.
Conflict in the Middle East
On February 28, the US and Israel carried out a series of strikes on Iran, including the capital, Tehran. These attacks became a continuation of the bombings that began back in June 2025.
US President Donald Trump accused Iran of financing and training militants in Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq, as well as supporting Hamas in Palestine. According to him, the main goal of the operation is to destroy Iran's missile program.
In response, Tehran on February 28 launched attacks on US bases and civilian infrastructure in neighboring countries, and also announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, since the start of the military campaign on February 28, the Israeli Air Force has carried out about 400 strikes in the western and central parts of Iran.
Despite the intensity of the attacks, Israeli leadership plans to continue the operation for at least three more weeks. However, the implementation of these plans may depend on Washington's position.
According to media reports, Donald Trump's administration seeks to end hostilities earlier than Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would like. The White House has allegedly set April 9 as the desired date for ending the operation.
In the Israeli General Staff, this scenario is being considered 100%, and they understand that there is a window of opportunity that may close at any moment.
