Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made a cynical statement regarding strikes near the Bushehr nuclear power plant, stressing the risk of radiation spreading to the Gulf countries' population, also drawing parallels to attacks on Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
"Remember the Western outrage about hostilities near Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine? Israel-U.S. have bombed our Bushehr plant four times now," Araghchi wrote.
He also made a manipulative claim that any strikes on the Bushehr nuclear facility could spread radioactive contamination to Gulf countries.
"Radioactive fallout will end life in GCC capitals, not Tehran," the Iranian foreign minister said.
Strike on Bushehr nuclear plant, Middle East situation
On April 4, Iran reported a new US-Israeli strike near the Bushehr nuclear power plant. According to Tehran, a projectile hit near the plant's fence, killing a security guard, though the main sections of the facility were unharmed.
Iran claims this was the fourth strike on the Bushehr nuclear facility since the current war began.
As for Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Russia has regularly created military risks around the facility, including shelling, mine-laying, and using it as a military base. Strikes often target infrastructure such as power lines, substations, and energy grids rather than the reactors themselves.
The IAEA consistently responds to these risks, expressing concern and calling for a safety regime and a ceasefire around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
Recently, US officials have signaled the war in Iran could end within weeks. President Donald Trump has threatened Tehran with a devastating strike and promised to push the Islamic state back to the Stone Age.
