Germany to fund 500 million dollar US weapons package for Ukraine

Germany will fund a package of American weapons for Ukraine worth 500 million dollars under NATO's PURL initiative, reports The Guardian.
Germany has announced that it will finance the third major package of military equipment and ammunition for Ukraine under NATO's new program.
The Netherlands and a group of Scandinavian countries — Denmark, Norway, and Sweden — have already pledged to fund the first two packages, each also worth around 500 million dollars.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte welcomed the move.
"I commend Germany for stepping up once again. This delivery will help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression," he said.
Rutte noted that Germany is the largest European donor of military aid to Ukraine, and today's announcement once again underscores its commitment to supporting the Ukrainian people in defending their freedom and sovereignty.
New US–NATO initiative
The United States and NATO have launched a new mechanism for providing military aid to Ukraine through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative.
The initiative stipulates that all American weapons received by Ukraine will be paid for by European countries.
In particular, it was recently announced that Ukraine will receive American weapons worth 500 million euros, with the Netherlands funding the deliveries.
Sweden, Denmark, and Norway will also jointly finance the purchase of US defense equipment for Ukraine in the amount of 500 million dollars.
In addition, Latvia has also expressed its readiness to join the new NATO initiative to fund American weapons for Ukraine.
