The United States of America and NATO have launched a new mechanism for providing military aid to Ukraine through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative, reports Minister of Defense of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

"The goal of this mechanism is to ensure the rapid delivery to Ukraine of systems and weapons that can be obtained in large quantities from the United States, in order to strengthen Ukraine's positions and create conditions for achieving a just and lasting peace," Shmyhal stated.

According to him, this initiative is being implemented within the framework of agreements between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

As the minister explained, thanks to the new mechanism, NATO member states and partners will be able to finance the supply of American weapons and technologies through voluntary contributions.

The PURL mechanism provides for the formation of a list of equipment and ammunition based on Ukraine's requests, which are confirmed by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR). New aid packages will be announced on a regular basis.

NATO will coordinate deliveries under this mechanism, including through existing NATO structures (NATO Security Assistance and Training to Ukraine – NSATU).

"The Netherlands has taken on the funding of the first aid package worth 500 million euros, and it is expected that weapons deliveries will begin soon. Additional important announcements are also expected in the near future," Shmyhal added.

New US and NATO initiative

In July, US President Donald Trump stated that he had reached an agreement with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte regarding the supply of American weapons to Ukraine.

Trump assured that all the weapons Ukraine would receive would be paid for by European countries.

In particular, it became known today that Ukraine will receive American weapons worth 500 million euros. The deliveries will be financed by the Netherlands.
