Germany allocates financial aid for Ukraine's energy network repairs
Germany today, on November 27, announced financial assistance to the national power company Ukrenergo. It involves 300 million euros, according to the German Ambassador to Ukraine, Martin Jaeger.
"Building on our long-lasting partnership, Germany is providing Ukrenego with over 300 mn. EUR of support for grid repair and modernization," the statement reads.
The ambassador highlighted that Ukrenergo is one of the main beneficiaries of Germany's contribution of 200 million euros to the Ukrainian Energy Support Fund.
"Together, we keep the lights on," Jaeger added.
Germany aims to double assistance to Ukraine
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated the country intended to double its military aid to Ukraine in 2024. Instead of the previously budgeted 4 billion euros, the plan was to spend 8 billion euros for that purpose.
Later, journalists familiarized themselves with the draft federal budget for 2024, which includes doubling military aid to Ukraine to 8 billion euros.
According to subsequent reports by Reuters, the ruling coalition in Germany is attempting to fill a significant gap in the budget. This delay has resulted in the suspension of the 8 billion euro defense aid earmarked for Ukraine next year.
