Energy ceasefire: Kremlin confirms deal with Trump but sets new deadline

Russian president's press secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed Russia's agreement to an energy ceasefire, but only until February 1, Russian media report.
According to Peskov, Russia agreed to refrain from strikes against Ukraine until February 1 following a request from US President Donald Trump.
The Kremlin spokesperson noted that this decision was made "to create favorable conditions for negotiations."
After the end of the energy ceasefire, Ukraine will face frosts of up to minus 28 degrees Celsius (minus 18 degrees Fahrenheit).
Energy ceasefire
On Thursday, January 29, information spread on social media about an alleged halt to Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Russians were allegedly banned from attacking facilities in Kyiv and the region, as well as in other regions of Ukraine.
At the same time, reports appeared that the moratorium could be bilateral and last until February 3. It was claimed that this was linked to another round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia scheduled for February 1.
Later, Donald Trump said that he had personally appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to temporarily halt strikes on Ukrainian cities during a period of severe frost. According to him, the Kremlin leader agreed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed information about an energy ceasefire with Russia. He noted that this issue was discussed in Abu Dhabi and added that he expects the agreements to be fulfilled.
