The Ukrainian delegation discussed the possibility of an energy ceasefire during talks with the United States and Russia in Abu Dhabi. Kyiv expects the agreements to be implemented, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a post on X.
"An important statement by President Trump about the possibility of providing security for Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities during this extreme winter period. Power supply is a foundation of life. We value the efforts of our partners to help us protect lives," Zelenskyy wrote.
Ukrainian President added that the delegations in Abu Dhabi discussed the issue of an energy ceasefire.
"We expect the agreements to be implemented. De-escalation steps contribute to real progress toward ending the war," Zelenskyy emphasized.
Energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia
On January 29, Russian media began spreading information about a ban on Russia striking Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Subsequently, reports appeared about a similar ban on strikes on Russian territory.
Kostiantyn Nemichev, founder of the Kraken unit, noted that the energy truce is likely currently in effect on both sides.
At the same time, Ukrainian Telegram channels emphasized that there is still no final decision between the parties to cease attacks on energy facilities.
At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba said that the risk of a new Russian strike remains. Because of this, all services, in particular the State Emergency Service and the Armed Forces, are preparing for possible challenges.
Earlier, the Financial Times reported that Ukraine and the US plan to offer Russia an energy ceasefire during the next round of peace talks in Abu Dhabi.
In addition, Trump said he asked Russian leader Vladimir Putin not to attack Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities for a week.
