The Netherlands may deploy peacekeeping forces to Ukraine if a peace agreement is reached with Russia. The country’s parliament has approved a corresponding resolution, according to NOS.

The Dutch House of Representatives has urged the government to take a constructive position on participating in post-war peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.

A majority of lawmakers in the lower house of parliament voted in favor of the resolution.

The document states that parliament sees an active role for the Netherlands in ensuring stability if a ceasefire is reached between Ukraine and Russia. This mission would not necessarily be under NATO’s command, as the US Secretary of Defense has already stated that the US or the Alliance does not see a role in such a peacekeeping mission.

Peacekeeping troops in Ukraine

Recently, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that he is ready and willing to deploy British troops to Ukraine to enforce a peace agreement if necessary.

Sweden has also not ruled out the possibility of sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk made it clear that Poland will not send troops as part of a peacekeeping mission. Instead, Warsaw remains committed to providing logistical, financial, humanitarian, and military support to Ukraine.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine has made significant progress in establishing a foreign military contingent on its territory, which could serve as a first step toward the creation of a joint European Armed Forces.

The Washington Post previously reported that European countries could send between 25,000 and 30,000 soldiers as part of a peacekeeping mission. This number of potential troops, according to the agency, was disclosed in response to a letter from the United States, where it asked European countries to detail their capabilities to support Kyiv.
