Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Warsaw does not support Russia's proposal for a one-day truce on May 9. In his words, this is not a step toward peace but a political gesture aimed at holding a parade in Moscow. He will not try to persuade Zelenskyy to agree to such terms, according to Janusz Jaskółka.

"This is absurd"

Tusk made the statement on the eve of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan. According to him, the signal from Moscow boils down to a one-day pause, solely so that Russia can hold its parade.

"This is absurd. I will not in any way try to convince President Zelenskyy to agree to such proposals," the Polish prime minister said.

What a real ceasefire looks like

Tusk emphasised that Poland supports only initiatives that could serve as a starting point for genuine peace negotiations.

A real cessation of hostilities should not be symbolic or tied to specific dates — it must form the foundation of a long-term peace process.

The potential ceasefire around May 9 has been actively discussed in the information space recently. The Centre for Countering Disinformation stressed that the Russian initiative is not aimed at achieving peace but stems from the Kremlin's inability to guarantee security even in Moscow.

The Kremlin has stated that the final decision on a ceasefire must be made personally by Vladimir Putin, but has not provided any specific dates or conditions.

The Ukrainian side, for its part, plans to clarify the details of this proposal with the US president's team. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasised that Kyiv is ready for peace but will not accept tactical manipulations or illusions from the enemy.
