Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Ukraine and the European Union have allegedly declared war on Hungary, according to his statement.

This is how he commented on a Politico publication about the idea of advanced EU membership for Ukraine and possible mechanisms to bypass the Hungarian veto.

According to Orbán, Politico is "Brusselian elite's official publication," and he called the ideas described in the article a "war plan."

"This new plan is an open declaration of war against Hungary. They disregard the decision of the Hungarian people and are determined to remove the Hungarian government by any means necessary. They want the Tisza Party to come to power, because then there would be no more veto, no more resistance, and no more staying out of their conflict," his statement says.

Hungarian Prime Minister noted that in April Hungarians "must stop them" and do it at polling stations.

"Fidesz is the only force standing between Hungary and Brusselian rule, and the only guarantee of Hungarian sovereignty," Orbán wrote.

What preceded this

In its publication, Politico wrote about the idea of advanced accession for Ukraine, which would provide partial European membership already in 2027. At the same time, such a step would not mean weakening of requirements in fundamental issues.

In addition, the article mentions plans A, B, and C regarding Hungary's unwillingness to support procedural decisions for further European integration of Ukraine. They include the defeat of Orbán in the April elections, the attempt to influence through US President Donald Trump, or the use of Article 7 of the EU Treaty.

Orbán and his statements

The long-term rule of Orbán and his Fidesz party in Hungary is coming to an end. Already in April pro-Russian prime minister may lose to the opposition pro-European Tisza party.

In an attempt to win elections, Orbán launched a large-scale intimidation campaign. He actively uses manipulation, propaganda, and lies, trying to discredit his rival Péter Magyar. He also effectively assigned Ukraine the role of enemy in his election campaign.

In particular, Orbán stated that Budapest allegedly does not intend to support Kyiv's accession to the European Union for the next 100 years. In Kyiv, in response, they hinted that neither Orbán nor his master in the Kremlin would live that long.

Earlier, Orbán cynically claimed that it is unclear who attacked whom in the war between Ukraine and Russia. In response, Kyiv sharply mocked the Hungarian leader, reminding him that the last time Hungary chose the wrong side and lost.

In addition, Orbán recently publicly called Ukraine the enemy of Hungary. He stated that Ukraine allegedly demands that Brussels deprive Hungary of cheap Russian gas and oil, which threatens high utility prices for Hungarians.
