The death toll in Kyiv has risen following Russia's massive combined attack overnight on June 2, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
"Another injured person has died in hospital. The death toll from the massive June 2 attack on the capital has risen to seven," he said.
According to Klitschko, 89 people were injured in the large-scale overnight attack on Kyiv. Fifty-one of the wounded remain hospitalized, including two children.
During the night of June 2, Russia launched a large-scale combined strike against Ukraine, using ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles, as well as attack drones.
According to Ukrainian authorities, Russian forces launched around 70 missiles and nearly 700 drones. Air defenses managed to destroy a significant number of the aerial targets, but dozens of ballistic missiles reached their targets.
Later that morning, the Russian military attacked one of Naftogaz’s key facilities in the Kharkiv region. The attack began with drones and was followed by a missile strike.
The ballistic missile attack also left parts of Kyiv without electricity. The capital has also temporarily rerouted public transit following damage to the overhead power wires
Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged in the strikes.
In addition, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russian forces could launch another large-scale attack on Ukraine later tonight.
