The death toll and number of injured have risen following Russia's attack on Kryvyi Rih. The city is searching for people who remain missing, including a child, according to acting city mayor Oleksandr Vilkul.

Details available about those killed and missing

As of 1:40 p.m. on August 22, rescuers were searching for three people under the rubble, including one child. Nine people had initially been reported missing in the morning.

Later, five of them were identified among those killed and injured in hospitals. Another woman got in touch, and she is safe.

Condition of those injured in hospitals

Fifty people receive medical treatment, including 13 children. An 11-year-old girl was transported by a resuscitation team from a hospital in Kryvyi Rih (the "thousand-bed" hospital) to Dnipro city.

Among all those injured:

  • 6 people are in critical condition, including children aged 10 and 16
  • 9 patients are grave, all of them adults.
  • All other injured people are in stable condition and receiving the necessary medical care.

Damage to civilian infrastructure

The strike effectively destroyed a shopping mall. A gymnasium and a lyceum were also damaged, with nearly 220 windows blown out.

All emergency services and municipal workers continue to operate at the scene.

Air defense, tougher sanctions

Russia continues to commit deliberate war crimes against Ukraine's civilians.

In particular, 14 people were killed and more than 100 injured in a barbaric assault on a shopping mall in Kryvyi Rih. Russians used the tactic of a repeat strike, targeting the site after rescuers had arrived.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the attack, promising a response to the bloody strike.

Amid this, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on the international community to impose tougher sanctions on Russia.
