The spokesperson of the European Commission, Thomas Regnier, stated that following Russia’s threats against the Baltic states, an attack on one EU member state would be considered an attack on the entire Union, according to European Pravda.

On April 7, Regnier made the statement while responding to a question about Russia’s threats against the Baltic states over their provision of airspace to Ukraine for strikes on Russian territory.

"An attack on one of our member states is an attack on the EU as a whole," the European Commission spokesperson emphasized.

At the same time, he noted that the European Commission had "seen media reports" about such threats from Russia.

In addition, Regnier recalled four flagship initiatives aimed at protecting EU member states from external interference. Among them, he mentioned the drone defense initiative and the Air Shield, which are currently priorities for the European Union.

Is Russia preparing for a war with NATO?

In recent times, Western media and intelligence services have been actively discussing the risk of a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO as early as 2026–2027.

Analysts do not rule out that the Kremlin may attempt to test the Alliance’s defenses through hybrid attacks or border provocations, particularly in Baltic countries.

Experts also draw attention to Moscow’s rhetoric, noting that prior to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Vladimir Putin made similar statements.

At the same time, NATO countries are preparing for a possible escalation: for example, recent exercises in Estonia were aimed at practicing defense against modern high-tech warfare.
